AS - Single Metal Expansion Joints

Single metal expansion joints are engineered devices designed to absorb axial, lateral, and angular movements in piping systems resulting from thermal expansion, contraction, or mechanical forces.

  • Accepts axial, lateral, angular movements
  • Versatile and common throughout all industries
  • Use of tie rods contain pressure thrust. Can also include hinges or gimbals

AU - Universal Expansion Joints

Universal expansion joints are designed to accommodate large amounts of lateral movement in addition to axial displacement, making them particularly suitable for complex piping layouts where direction changes are frequent.

PB – Pressure Balanced Expansion Joints

Specified when pressure thrust needs to be eliminated. There are two types of PB applications:

  • Elbow – When a 90 degree turn in the piping system is required,
  • Inline – Straight piping system application

XP - Externally Pressurized Expansion Joints

Specified when pressure thrust needs to be eliminated. There are two types of PB applications:

  • Elbow – When a 90 degree turn in the piping system is required,
  • Inline – Straight piping system application

RT – Rectangular Expansion Joints

Similar to their circular expansion joints, rectangular expansion joints accommodate axial, lateral, and angular movements. For effective design of rectangular bellows, it is essential to determine the orientation of lateral and angular movement—whether parallel to the long or short sides of the bellows. In contrast to circular bellows, which experience circumferential membrane (hoop) stress under pressure, rectangular bellows must be engineered to withstand longitudinal (beam) bending stresses.
